TRACK & FIELD

The 2024 CIF State Meet

Athletes put on a show at state

    📸 Eric Taylor

Kids from all over the state of California descended on the Fresno area and fans of track and field flocked to Buchanan High in Clovis to watch the 2024 CIF State Championships.

From  10th grader Brandon Arrington running a 10.27 100m dash in one of Friday's prelims to Sadie Engelhardt dropping the baton in the 4x800m relay and still coming back to help Valencia win Saturday night the 2024 state meet kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Acalanes senior Trevor Rogers came to the state meet #1 in the Long Jump and left state with the gold medal (24'3").

Bishop O'Dowd's Brandon Rush picked the state meet to really step his game up. Friday Rush busted out a 48'1" 1/4 to qualify 2nd for Saturday's triple jump final where he won with leap of 47'5".

Pittsburg High's 4x100m  came into the state meet with little fanfare. They dusted off the track with a season best 40.77 winning just ahead of Long Beach Poly (40.8).

Campolindo shot putter Pinkie Schnayer has done ballet, played Varsity football and made it to state in the discus and shot put.

Schnayer, a senior won thr shot put with a toss of 47'3"3/4 to beat out Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks Aja Johnsons 46'8"3/4.

Brandon Arrington Jr. out of San Diego's Mt Miguel backed  up his 10.27 with a 10.33 to win the 100m dash final before sprinting 20.55 to win the 200m dash later that evening.

Sadie Engelhardt breaks CIF State meet record going under 4:34 in the 1600

    Video by Eric Taylor

Sadie Engelhardt ran herself into California state meet history while winning both the 8 and 1600m runs at the 2023 CIF State meet.

That's a 800 and 1600 Friday only to do it all over again Saturday.

Only a Sophomore Engelhardt has her eyes on big meets this year as places on the various national teams are selected..

Another double winner at state was big man Brendon See. Brendon threw the discus 196' to win state Saturday but he launched one 199' in the prelims Friday.

See won the Shot Put Saturday night with a toss of 62' 9.5". Look for him at the USATF U20 Nationals in Eugene Oregon July 6-9.

Look for Rodrick Pleasant (Serra High, Gardena) to also be up in Eugene early July as well. Pleasant put his name in the record books at the 2023 CIF State meet winning the 100m dash in 10.20.

What a nice way to end a high school career that earned him a scholarship to play football at the University of Oregon next season.

Pleasant needed every bit of that 10.2 finishing just ahead of Jordan Washington (10.3 Jordan High) and El Cerritos Robert Stitts (10.31)
